Can I Adjust Myself? Can my Friend Just "Pop my Back?"

No. Since a chiropractic adjustment is a specific force, applied in a specific direction to a specific joint, it is virtually impossible to adjust oneself correctly and accurately. It is possible to turn or bend or twist in certain ways to create the same "popping" sound that sometimes accompanies a chiropractic adjustment. Unfortunately, this type of joint manipulation is usually counterproductive, often making an already unstable spine even more unstable, and sometimes can be dangerous.  Dr. Hodge is a specialist in performing these adjustments correctly to prevent further damage and encourage better health.

Can a person who had back surgery see a chiropractor?

Yes.It's an unfortunate fact that up to half of those who had spinal surgery discover a return of their original symptoms months or years later. They then face the prospect of additional surgery. This too common occurrence is known as "Failed Back Surgery Syndrome." Chiropractic may help prevent repeated back surgeries. In fact, if chiropractic care is initially utilized back surgery can often be avoided in the first place. We have had a lot of success treating post surgery, we can use any number of mild treatments to assist your pain and speed healing.

Is Chiropractic Care Addictive?

No. Your body contains everything it needs to heal, now and in the future. Chiropractic care is just a method to help your body do so more quickly and more completely. Many people see chiropractors every few years, and some attain the health they desire and maintain it on their own! Of course, once people experience the health benefits and freedom of movement that come as a result of frequent, skilled adjustments, many people choose to keep life-long relationships with their chiropractor.

Is chiropractic just for adults?

Absolutely not!Chiropractic can help people of all ages, from newborn infants to the elderly. Infants often need chiropractic care shortly after they're born because the birthing process can be one of the most traumatic experiences their spines ever have. Think about it - their spines are being twisted and pulled moving through the birth canal - and that's during a "normal" birth! Making sure your infant and child's spines are in proper alignment can reduce or eliminate many health issues - such as ear infections, colic, colds, etc - as well as prevent any chronic back or neck pain or issues later in their life.  Children, particularly school-age children, carry backpacks full of books that can put a lot of undue pressure on their shoulders, causing them to have improper posture and leading to subluxations of the spine. Chiropractic care is for people of all ages because it is safe, gentle, natural, and highly effective.

Does a Chiropractor have to have a license to practice?

Yes.  Doctors of Chiropractic most be licensed by the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners.  Chiropractors also need 24 hours of continuing education per year.
